The New Jack Swing & Teddy Riley Received The Keys To Harlem

Sunday (11/9/18), the “New Jack Swing Day” in Harlem began with a presentation from NYS Assemblywoman Inez Dickens and NYS Senator Brian Benjamin  who  gave Teddy Riley, Keith Sweat, Damien Hall and Kool Moe Dee keys to Harlem.  The presentation was held at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.  It was definitely time to shine the music spotlight on the enormous 30 year impact the “New  Jack Swing” sound  and  the architect behind the sound “Teddy Riley” has made in the music industry.

After the presentation, the City of Harlem gathered for LIVE performances  by Keith Sweat, Doug E Fresh, Guy, Blackstreet, Al B Sure and MC Lyte.  The whole show was streaming  LIVE on Tidal from the Apollo Theater.

  1. Hi Queenie,
My name is April Robbins-Bobyn, CEO of ARB Consulting Group. First, I want to thank you for covering the Keys to Harlem ceremony. It was a wonderful event, but I wanted to make one correction. As the creator and producer of the event it wasn’t the Apollo Theater that honored Teddy Riley and the other artists. It was the politicians, NYS Assemblywoman Inez Dickens and NYS Senator Brian Benjamin. The Apollo Theater was simply the venue since the concert was happening there that evening. I know it may not seem important, but I put an enormous amount of time and energy to make that happen and it would be unfair to me not to give credit were credit was due. Thank you again for attending and covering my event.
