The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’s planned return for April 2021 has been canceled, according to Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the public health officer for Riverside County where the annual festival is held every year. Kaiser made the announcement via Twitter.
New dates for the festival has not been announced. The event had been planned for April 9-11 and 16-18.
The postponement is the third time the massive two-weekend festival has had to change dates due to concerns over coronavirus. Last March, the festival’s April dates with headliners Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine were postponed until early October. Then, in June, the October dates were canceled as well.
2020 was the first since 2000 that Coachella did not occurred. The festival previously took a gap year break after its 1999 debut and its 2001 return.Play Video
Last week, Glastonbury Festival in England announced it was canceling its event planned for June 23–27, and Billboard reported that Ultra Music Festival in Miami would cancel its planned March 26-28 return (the festival has not yet publicly announced it). Coachella may not, however, be off for the whole year — last year a source at event producer Goldenvoice said there were conversations about moving it to October 2021, depending on how the coronavirus pandemic progresses.
