An off-duty Illinois state trooper fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself inside a car in Chicago on Monday afternoon, a report said.
The 30-year-old trooper, Antonio Alvarez, and his 31-year-old spouse, Amanda Calo, were found by a witness in the vehicle parked on a street on the Southeast Side, CBS Chicago reported, citing police.

The pair both died of gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Calo was a beloved pre-K teacher in the Chicago Public Schools system, the teachers union said, calling her death a “devastating loss.”

The couple had two children — a 4-year-old boy, Eli, and a 1-year-old girl, Myla, the union said.
A GoFundMe post to raise money for the children described Calo as a charismatic, esteemed teacher.

“Her smile was infectious and her unmistakable laugh radiated in every room she walked into,” the post read.

“She was loved by many and adored by classmates, friends and coworkers alike.”
