Police are investigating after witnesses say a pedestrian at a Jack in the Box drive-thru was struck by a vehicle on Saturday evening in Spanaway, Washington.
Police in Washington State are investigating after witnesses said that a pedestrian at a Jack In the Box drive-thru was struck by a vehicle in what appeared to be an intentional act. Above, an exterior view of a Jack in the Box restaurant on December 06, 2021 in San Rafael, California.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement officials received a call about a “vehicle versus a pedestrian collision” at the fast-food restaurant. When deputies arrived, a 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Several people called in and advised this appeared to be intentional as the man was run over several times,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a description of the incident that was posted online.
According to the department, “it was reported” that the incident began when the suspect’s vehicle struck the victim’s vehicle. The victim then allegedly got out of the passenger seat “to contact the suspect.”
“Witnesses reported the suspect ran over the victim, then backed up over the victim again before fleeing the scene,” the sheriff’s department wrote, adding, that the incident is being investigated as a homicide. It also urged the public to contact police with any information.
Newsweek reached out to the sheriff’s department for any updates in the case, but did not receive a response before publication on Sunday evening.
In a separate incident this month, police in California said they were searching for a suspect who allegedly assaulted a mother in a McDonald’s drive-thru.
The Richmond Police Department said the suspect “accused the victim of cutting in line, and rammed her car into the victim’s vehicle.” When the victim got out of her car the suspect “drove directly toward the victim, striking and dragging her across the parking lot for more than 150 feet before stopping,” and then punched the victim while she was on the ground.
“Investigators believe this incident was an unprovoked attack upon the victim and her children,” the department wrote in a statement at the time.
Also this month, police in Swansea, Illinois, said that they were looking for a man who opened fire into a Wendy’s after he went to the restaurant’s drive-thru and said he “was not happy with the service.

After asking to speak with a manager, who spoke with him through a glass door, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun “and shot several times into the glass door and dining area,” police said.
No one was injured and the restaurant’s dining area was closed when the shooting happened.
